Kortney “Mali Music” Pollard’s album “The Second Coming” is a breath of fresh air because of its honest lyrics and original music and style.
Pollard, a singer, songwriter and producer from Savanna, GA began his music ministry in 2008 when he started the independent label “SoundWalk Music Group”.
The label is under the management of OvaFlo Entertainment. “The Second Coming” was released in July 2009 and has been taking the music industry by storm. People across the country are becoming fans of Pollard’s uninhibited approach to music intended to spread the gospel.
Pollard’s “The Second Coming” appeals to a variety of people because it conveys the gospel in a creative way without tainting the word of God.
Unlike some gospel or inspirational songs where the lyrics are lukewarm and avoid telling the listeners’ that part of being a Christian is living holy, “The Second Coming” is honest and direct. Selections such as “Impulses” convey the unadulterated truth through lyrics that talk about how temptations arise in your walk as a child of God.
In “Impulses”, Pollard talks directly about how Christians have to fight for their salvation. It is a proactive song on dealing with the flesh and the lusts thereof.
His lyrics comma “There is no escape because you chose life, every time you turn around, there will be trouble on every side, but fight, fight, fight for your life,” stays close to the gospel by describing John 16:33: “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
The refreshing honesty of “The Second Coming” is also conveyed in “I Hate You”, a passionate song about the devil and his attempts to cause pain and affliction to the saints of God. The highly energetic and passionate song boldly states Pollard possessive hate for the devil and all his devices.
“I hate you, you a lie, you a cheat, you defeated, I hate you, from the depths of my soul and I mean it,” is a great example of how Christians should view the devil.
The lyrics from “I Hate You” that say “I am upright, Yes God can mold, Yes I’m saved, and my body’s holy, Yes I was guilty, but Christ died for me, Don’t believe a lie y’all the devil’s phony” paints a vivid picture of Romans 12:9: “Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.”
The way Pollard uses his music to bestow the message of salvation to the listeners is definitely unique.
Part of what makes “The Second Coming” so great is the originality of it. The varied styles of music genres he uses show that he is not afraid to take risks.
“Heart Song”, a smooth and romantic ballad to the Father, displays Pollard creativity and originality.
Pollard uses a combination of Hebrew and English to paint of picture of his unconditional love for God. From the beginning percussion selection to the smooth vocals and Hebrew confessions of love and adoration, “Heart Song’s” message of how indescribable having a personal relationship with God is, is beautiful.
“Gimme, Gimme” is a fast and edgier selection. The energetic song can at best be compared to Christian Rock, although not necessarily confined to its description.
The high levels of energy in the music and vocals of the song fit well with lyrics that boldly proclaim their mission to get back anything the devil took and spread the message of salvation and deliverance with lyrics such as “We on a mission and … [to] rescue you from the snare, snatch you out of hell, cause we know you don’t want to go there.”
Pollard’s love and passion for God is shown throughout “The Second Coming”. Track after track, creative and imaginative displays of originality in music production make it clear that Pollard is gifted, and has every intention of using his gift to glorify God and to encourage others.
